SMTS SOFTWARE SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER THE ROLE: We are seeking an engineer to join our team that will thrive in a fast-paced work environment, using effective communication, problem-solving and prioritization skills. Individuals that are well organized, show great attention to detail, and employ critical thinking are well-suited for our team. THE PERSON: A senior-level person who can guide the team, mentor upcoming developers, provide long-range strategy, and jump in to resolve issues quickly. Involved in all areas impacting the team — performance, automation and development — informed on latest trends and prepared to give consultative direction to senior management. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Strong desire to learn new skills and understand new features as they are addedProven record of working within and across groups; effective communicationExplore opportunities to improve the productWork closely with team members to understand design architecture and propose solutions to improve/enhance productsDesign and develop software applications for Windows and LinuxFormulate technical vision and strategy to meet business goalsMentor software developers on sound design and coding practicesPrepare architectural documentsParticipate in code, design and architectural reviewsImprove software using design patterns, refactoring, etc.Contribute to release planning and estimation of software modules/feature PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Strong in C#, .NET Core, SQL Server, C++Storng understanding and exposure to hardware protocols like JTAG, I2C, I3C etc...Application development for Web and Desktop; cross-platform apps using .NET CoreExcellent troubleshooting skills; performance and scalability improvementUnit testing frameworksGood written/oral communication and presentation skills; good interpersonal and organizational skillsExperience using AI development tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, and Codex to enhance software engineering productivity.Knowledge of prompt engineering and AI-assisted development practices.Experience building or integrating AI agents, agentic workflows, or LLM-based applications is a strong advantage.Familiarity with modern AI frameworks and APIs is desirable.
