About the role
What is Flagstone?
Flagstone is many things. An online savings platform, reinventing how individuals, businesses, and charities manage, protect, and grow their cash. A diverse group of people, bound by a collaborative spirit, and shared purpose. And lastly, a thriving, profitable business – where smart people do their best work.
Each definition shares a common thread: our unique culture. It’s our pride and joy. And our competitive advantage.
A feel for our culture:
To revolutionise the savings market, we need to be at our best. But high performance takes more than talent – it takes a culture of kindness, respect, and growth.
That’s why we’re building a diverse, inclusive community, where your voice is heard and valued. Where, with close support and room to develop, you can surpass even your own expectations. And be rewarded for it.
We may not change the world, but we can change the world of financial technology. And all it takes is a winning mix of drive, talent, and empathy. Our culture celebrates all three.
But enough about us. Let’s talk about you.
Does this sound like you?
You’re a qualified accountant who enjoys being close to the numbers and close to the business. You’ve run month-end, the balance sheet, and financial controls end to end, and you know what good controls look like in both complex and fast-growing environments. You stay calm under pressure, explain finance simply to people outside it, and you’re always looking for smarter, more automated ways of working.
What you'll do
You’ll run Flagstone’s day-to-day core finance operations, making sure our numbers are accurate, controlled, and on time. Reporting to the Finance Director, you’ll own the month-end close, the balance sheet, and day-to-day financial control, while our FP&A team owns planning and forecasting. As the Finance Director’s right hand, you’ll run the detail so they can focus on supporting the CFO, the Board, and commercial decisions. It’s a hands-on role that will grow in scope and complexity as Flagstone scales.
This will include:
Running the month-end close end to end and delivering accurate, timely management accounts
Keeping a clean, fully supported balance sheet, with reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and journals in order
Making sure direct-to-consumer and business revenue is recorded accurately, with commercial terms in contracts correctly reflected in revenue and cash
Managing daily cash and liquidity monitoring, so the Finance Director always has a clear view of our position
Owning financial controls that fit our scale and regulatory environment, including our obligations as an Authorised Payment Institution
Preparing for the annual statutory audit, and delivering VAT returns, tax compliance, Companies House filings, and HMRC reporting
Making sure monthly payroll and benefits are processed accurately, supported by clear standard operating procedures
Working closely with teams across the business, including Product and Engineering on software capitalisation, Compliance, People, Legal, Sales, Data, and Transaction Operations
Deputising for the Finance Director and supporting the team during peak periods
Using automation and AI to shorten the close, reduce manual work, and help build a technology-enabled finance function
What you'll bring
ACA or ACCA qualified, with solid post-qualified experience running month-end, balance sheet, and financial controls
Strong technical accounting knowledge and the pace to deliver to tight deadlines
Experience in a complex environment with good controls discipline, as well as in a smaller, fast-growing business
Experience with a modern cloud ERP system, with Workday Financials a significant advantage
A sharp eye for detail and good commercial awareness, spotting when numbers and contracts differ and following it through
Strong organisation, with the ability to manage competing priorities and adjust quickly
Clear, direct communication that builds trusted relationships across teams, and the ability to explain financial information simply to non-finance colleagues
An empathetic, approachable style, helping other teams get things right rather than just flagging what’s wrong
Resilience through month-end, audit, and shifting priorities, and the confidence to challenge constructively, including at senior level
Ownership of outcomes, sound judgement on when to act and when to escalate, and a drive to keep finding better ways of working
Direct-to-consumer experience is helpful but not essential
